Shakespearean Poem

"Full gently now she takes him by the hand,
A lily prison'd in a gaol of snow,
Or ivory in an alabaster band;
So white a friend engirts so white a foe"

This is an extract from Shakespeare: 'Venus and Adonis'' on page 78 of 'The Artificial face' by Fenja Gunn. This was in relation to speaking about a pale face in the Elizabethan era. It shows that throughout time a pale face has been seen as something beautiful, delicate and admired. It is something that we don't see as often in modern day but that portrays soft and delicate looks in makeup whether it's in fashion, film and tv or in theatre.
